Britain’s Biggest Landlord Bans ‘Coloured’ Tenants

Britain’s biggest landlord, Fergus Wilson, has courted controversy in the past with his questionable filtering techniques for finding the right tenants to live in his properties. In his latest email to Evolution, the company that manages hundreds of his properties, Fergus Wilson has told staff “no coloured people because of the curry smell”. He has justified his ban by saying that it cost him £12,000 over a six-month period to rid rental properties of food odour smells from carpets. Read more…

A landlord has won an important court case against Leeds City Council, which could have implications for other landlords. Leeds city Council took the landlord to court in an attempt to make him pay council tax on five empty properties he owned, despite the fact the tenancy agreements had not been formally ended by either party.
