ARLA Partnership
“We are delighted to be working alongside ARLA to ensure that these vital gas safety messages are understood by all across the rental sector. ARLA is well recognised and trusted by landlords and together we can do even more to help people understand their rights and responsibilities and improve gas safety,” says Jonathan Samuel, chief executive of the Gas Safe Register.

Messages will be sent out over the coming months with the aim of educating landlords about their responsibilities in the area of gas safety.

Landlord Gas Safety Checks
o Landlords must ensure gas appliances, pipe work, and flues are regularly inspected and maintained.

o Gas safety records must be given to a tenant within 28 days of a new tenancy agreement.

o Gas appliances must be verified as “safe” before a property is re-let, and if a tenant has left an old gas appliance behind and it isn’t safe, it should be removed from the property.

A Gas Safe registered engineer is the only person qualified to carry out an annual Gas Safety Check (Gas Safe replaced the old CORGI scheme in 2009).

Landlords should check the credentials of anyone they hire to perform annual gas safety checks or routine maintenance. All Gas Safe registered engineers carry Gas Safe Register ID Cards.
