There is a lot to think about when you first start renting out property. From protecting deposits to checking-in your new tenants. It’s hardly surprising that some inexperienced landlords make mistakes or neglect to tick all the boxes. Now that the restrictions preventing people from moving house have been lifted, there is likely to be a resurgence of activity in the private rental sector.

Distance Learning Course

Since lockdown is an excellent opportunity to learn new skills via distance learning portals, the Deposit Protection Service, in association with Safeagent, the letting agent accreditation scheme, has created a new online course to help new landlords find their feet.

Starting a New Tenancy

New or inexperienced landlords can sign up for an interactive e-module. The course is designed to help landlords start a new residential tenancy and covers all the things they need to know, including:

  • Deposits
  • Tenancy agreements
  • Legal requirements for landlords

“Our latest online module with safeagent provides detailed information on the best way to initiate a successful tenancy,” says Matt Trevett from the DPS.

”It’s vital that the industry keeps working together to share knowledge and support each other during these difficult times, so we’re pleased to be able to continue to engage with landlords and letting agents on tenancy best practice now that the Government has eased restrictions on moving house for renters.”

Earn an eCertificate!

Once landlords have completed the course, they can do a test to verify how much they have learned. There is even an e-Certificate!

You can access the new course by visiting the DPS Training Hub, where you will need to create a log-in. If you have more time to spare, there are another three modules available. When taken as a whole, the course adds up to an accredited award, which is always handy to have and looks smashing on a CV.

Let us know if you try the course, so we can tell our followers what to expect. You can get in touch via Twitter or Facebook.
