For this month’s software tip, the topic is changing over the account owner in Landlord Vision.  While this isn’t something you would do very often – and many people don’t do it at all – we thought it would be good to provide some guidance should you need to do it at any point.

What/who is the Account Owner in Landlord Vision?

The Account Owner is the person or entity whose name is on the account. The Account Owner also has certain permissions which are not available to the Standard Users of the account, such as changing the subscription, adding and removing users, and viewing subscription invoices. Our contract is with the Account Owner, even if the properties are owned by somebody else.

Why Would You Want to Change the Account Owner in Landlord Vision?

Sometimes an account is set up in the name of an employee or personal assistant, rather than the landlord or property owner. This person will often be in charge of the day-to-day management of the properties and as such will be given full access to the software. After a while, this person may leave the organisation and move on to something else. Alternatively, a private landlord may pass their portfolio on to another family member, either on retiring or after death.

How Do You Change the Account Owner?

The way to do it is for the new owner to take over the Account Owner’s login rather than making a Standard User into the Account Owner. As such if the new owner is already a user, you will need to remove the user from the account before changing over the ownership.

By far the easiest way is to change it yourselves before the Account Owner leaves. Log in to Landlord Vision as the current owner and head to Account > My Profile. In here the new name and email address are set.  Once you press Save, you will need to log in with this new email address and any password reset requests will now go to the new address. Head to Change Password and get the new owner to set up their own password. Once the new owner logs out, the old owner will no longer have access to the software.

If this is no longer possible, please contact the helpdesk where our team will try and assist you. Generally, we won’t be able to do it straight away and we will need additional checks and approvals, but we can go through these with you depending on the set up of your business. For example, if the account owner was an employee and is no longer contactable, we will need approvals from a director listed in Companies House. If the Account Owner has died, we will need a death certificate. Once we have the information we need, we will be able to change over the owner to the correct person.
