Party Tenants Trash Flat on New Year’s Eve

By 2 min read • January 7, 2016

vandalised houseOne couple have had a bad start to 2016 after letting their London flat out for the night via short-term letting website Airbnb. They thought the tenant only wanted a bed to sleep in, but it soon became apparent that the young lady who had paid £128 to spend the night actually wanted a party venue for 100 of her friends.

Concerned Neighbour Blows Whistle on Party
The unfortunate couple only found out they had a problem when a concerned neighbour contacted them complaining about loud music and the stench of cannabis. They texted the tenant and asked her to “turn it down” and she agreed. The neighbour then rang back and said there were at least 100 people in the flat, so they called the police and dashed home. To their horror, the flat was full of drugged-up people who had caused a huge amount of damage. It was not a pretty site. Airbnb have since offered to pay for the damage.

Airbnb Pros and Cons
Lots of people use Airbnb to make some extra money. It can be a money-spinner if you own a home in a desirable location because people will often pay quite a lot of money to stay for a night or two. However, although the thought of earning extra money might be quite alluring, you do have to remember that not all tenants are what they seem and if someone chooses to trash your home, there is not a lot you can do to prevent it from happening.
